FUNERAL SERVICE: 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL with Pastor Justin Sweitzer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hazel Dell Cemetery, Hazel Dell, IL.

Leland Alan “Pete” Lansbery went to be with the Lord at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2015 after a brave battle with cancer and the effects of treatment.

Pete was born in Robinson, IL on August 24, 1931 with Dr. Alan G. Brooks assisting his mother.  He was the son of Claude James Lansbery and Ruth Sharp Lansbery, both now deceased.  In November 1952 he married Rosemary Dee Dennis who died in 2008.  On August 24, 2002, he married Wanda Lee Lanter.

Pete grew up on a farm southeast of Robinson about three miles southeast of the overhead railroad bridge.  He moved to Arizona as a young man to work for Reynolds Metals until joining the service when the Korean War broke out.  He served with the U. S. Army 25th Infantry Division, 27th Regimental Combat Team in the Iron Triangle, where some of the most vicious battles in the war took place.  After the war his career included the oilfields for 14 years (Tidewater and Getty Oil Companies) then drove over the road semis for Marathon Oil Company.  Over the years he was an owner/operator of a Marathon Gas Station as well as a Standard Oil Service station both in Robinson, IL, as well as a Real Estate Agent at Main Street Reality in Robinson, IL and later an as Apartment Manager for Cardinal Properties Industries in Florida.

Pete was a member of First Baptist Church of Oblong, IL; Oblong American Legion Post #219; Lifetime membership in EAA Chapter 174 Experimental Aircraft Association of Oshkosh, WI; Korean War Veterans Association and attended the 25th Infantry Division Reunion; member of the Sun & Fun Fly In of Lakeland, FL and was awarded the Chairman’s Award and chairman of the Kitchen Volunteers in Lakeland, FL.

Pete is survived by his wife Wanda Lee Lansbery of Oblong, IL; two sons James D. Lansbery and spouse Gary Stapleton of Indianapolis, IN and John A. Lansbery of Robinson, IL; step-son Gary and Gwenda Lanter of Oblong, IL; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Virginia Lansbery of Gulf Shores, Al; step-grandson Braden Lanter of Terre Haute, IN; nephews and nieces Jim and Ava Lansbery, Sue and Bill Craig, Judy and John Randall, Sharon and Charles Salesman, Sandy Potter, Alan and Lori Potter, Rick and Freda Potter, Linda and Joe Ainsworth, Steve Lansbery, Lori and Frank Domino, Lisa Lansbery, Matt and Trish Lansbery, Julie and Greg Lara, Dave and Diane Aten and niece-in-law Betty Smothers.

Preceding Pete in death were his parents Claude James and Ruth Lansbery; his first wife of 49 years Rosemary Lee Lansbery; brother and sister-in-law Max and Thelma Lansbery; three sisters and brothers-in-law Hazel and Ray York, Juanita and Glen Huelen, Wanda May and Otis Potter and nephew David Smothers.
